Join us on Saturday 16 May 2026 for a day of gravel, good people, and that unmistakable Gravel Giro spirit. Route and ride style Expect a route that is mostly on gravel roads, with no single track or technical mountain bike (MTB) trails. We will have two ride options, a longer route of roughly 50 km, and a shorter route of roughly 25 km, so you can choose the level that suits you. This is a purpose built Gravel Giro route, not a published Holla Trails loop. It is rolling and properly challenging, with a solid amount of climbing, the kind of ride that leaves you smiling and a little proud at the finish. Vintage roots, all bikes welcome Gravel Giro is proudly rooted in celebrating classic bikes and vintage cycling. If you have a steel beauty, bring it. If you do not, you are still more than welcome to ride. Modern gravel bikes and modern MTB bikes are invited too. We are not too strict, anything before 1999 counts as classic. Why the venue has changed In light of the current Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) situation affecting parts of the Midlands, moving the event is the responsible call. It supports the KZN Midlands farming community by reducing non essential movement through farming areas during an active outbreak. The Gravel Giro vibe stays the same You can still count on our famous food and refreshment stops, hosted and organised by our committee ladies, plus plenty of laughter, fun, and that community spirit that makes the Giro feel like more than just a ride. Travel and accommodation Holla Trails, Ballito is about a 40 minute drive from Durban, and there is ample accommodation across both the Durban and Ballito areas, whether you want to stay near the coast or keep things close to the event hub. Step back in time and relive the golden era of cycling at the eighth annual Gravel Giro. Join fellow vintage cycling enthusiasts on 16th to 18th May 2025 as you embark on a nostalgic journey surrounded by the timeless beauty of the Nottingham Road in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Whether you’re an avid cyclist or an aficionado of classic steel frames, the Gravel Giro offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the charm of vintage cycling and embrace the spirit of a bygone era. The camaraderie among fellow cyclists and the challenge of the gravel paths and winding farm roads make the Gravel Giro a must-attend event for cycling enthusiasts seeking adventure and natural beauty. Even though Gravel Giro’s main focus is the celebration of classic bikes, modern bikes are also more than welcome! If you don’t have a classic bike (although we’re not too strict, anything before 1999 counts!) you’re still welcome to join us on your modern bike for either distance. Event Name: Gravel Giro, South AfricaWhen: 25/05/2024Where: Glengarry Holiday Farm Kamberg, Elandskop, KwaZulu-NatalCategory: GravelThis is a festival of Vintage & Classic cycling. This will be the 7th running of this annual event. Ride your old steel road bikes on gravel roads like the heroes of the past did. All classic and vintage steel bikes are welcome. However participants are encouraged to ride a South African made classic or vintage steel bicycle. So dust off your old bike and get it ready! There are two distances, 80km or 55km. This is not a race but a fairly tough ride to appreciate and pay homage to what our cycling heroes faced when participating in the past. Fabulous food stops are included along the way. Experience the fun and camaraderie of riding with other classic bicycle enthusiasts while taking in the beautiful scenery of the Kamberg valley in the Natal Midlands.
